Practical Magic | The Inner Mentor Visualisation
No matter how unsettled or uprooted we feel, it's important to remember that inside of you is one who knows, and that knowing is deeply rooted and ever-present – if only you can access it.
I'm about to let you in on a precious secret, because the Inner Mentor has been one of the most profound sources of guidance and wisdom for me. Perhaps they shall be for you too.
A Powerful Tool to Meet Your Inner Mentor
In Episode 4, I talked briefly about how the unconscious and conscious minds take in data differently. The unconscious mind can process up to 11 million bits of information per second, and the conscious mind only processes about 50 bits per second. There is a wealth of experience, information and knowledge that exists beyond language if we have the right tools to access it. The veil between the conscious and unconscious worlds is thin and can be crossed at any moment.
I learned the Inner Mentor Visualisation from Tara Mohr, author of Playing Big. Listen to the entire audio of Mohr's Inner Mentor Visualisation Meditation here.
This visualisation guides you step by step to meet your future self 20 years from now. There are prompts to help you to pay attention to the version of yourself that appears, what they're doing, what their energy is like, where they live, etc. There are also prompts for you to engage with your future self and ask questions.
I encourage you to make some space in your day, perhaps make a ritual out of it, and do the Inner Mentor Visualisation with the journaling exercise afterward.
How to Embody Your Inner Mentor
In this episode, I share for the first time my own experience with this visualisation exercise, and how I have used my Inner Mentor to guide me over the years. Whenever I feel disconnected, challenged, or struggling with a decision, I try to embody her. I think of the powerful image in my mind; the deeply-rooted woman, alive with the life force, radiantly happy, connected by beautiful relationships, and surrounded by gifts from people all over the world.
What would she do?
How would she go about making this decision?
Do I really need to work so hard?
Do I need to prove myself so much?
My Inner Mentor reminds me of who I really am.
I invite you to try this exercise for yourself and see what wisdom your Inner Mentor tries to share, even if you can't hear it clearly at the moment.
As always, I wish you the best in your magical living experiments.
